Though I won't be participating in this, my friend [livejournal.com profile] theslashbunny asked me to pimp the new Harry Potter roleplaying community that she and her friends have started.

Plot synopsis can be found here at her journal. Click the banner to be taken to the RP site itself.

Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] fandomverse: make something about your favorite group. So, here's a fanmix about Dumbledore's Army.

Note: this was originally supposed to be fun songs about individual members of the DA (Neville, Luna, Ginny, Seamus, etc.). But, because certain fanworks I've read have SEVERELY colored my view of the DA, it turned into a fanmix about the entire DA as a whole, and about children going to war, and about determination and hope and loss.

So, uh. It got a little heavy. And a bit LONG. Organized into 2 discs; roughly, Disc 1 is about the DA in the days before the Battle of Hogwarts, and Disc 2 is the battle itself and its aftermath. (This was insane to try to organize. I hope it works and makes sense and stuff.)

(Update: songs can now be found here, courtesy of a friend.)

Pottermore

So. I don't exactly understand what Pottermore is, and why it's so exciting, but apparently I'm registered.

MidnightRain28, if anyone cares.

ETA: Bahahaha, and the hubby is EchoThorn203. I think my name's better.

So, I'm working on making a fanmix for a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] fandomverse.

However.

I have 31 potential songs. THIRTY-ONE. This is too many, even for a 2-disc fanmix.

I have no idea how I'm going to pare this down.

I went to see the last Harry Potter movie this weekend, finally!

I like movie trailers, and we had a decent batch of them.
-Cowboys and Aliens: I giggled that we were seeing that trailer, primarily because the movie itself was showing in the next theatre over
-Breaking Dawn: reinforcing my feelings of DO NOT WANT. Also, that trailer is actually the most I've ever seen of a Twilight film. Let's keep it that way, yeah? (WTF Bella, no I do not want to see you touching your stomach, stop that.)
-Sherlock Holmes 2: Entertaining trailer. RDJ in drag will never not be funny. However, I was kind of disappointed about Stephen Fry being Sir Not Appearing in This Trailer.
-uhh, I feel like we saw at least one more trailer, but I have no idea what it might've been now

Thoughts on the movie )

Hm. Once this comes out on DVD, I bet they're going to release a massive box set, what do you reckon? And then I'll finally actually buy the movies. Figure it'll be cheaper that way, and plus, massive box set will probably have more special features than were on the individual DVDs, because that's the way movie companies work: get you to buy each movie individually, THEN release a set with more extras in an effort to get you to buy the set on top of what you already own. But I R SMRT, and haven't been buying the individual movies all along.

I can't believe I've never posted a rec to this before. But.

Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness by [livejournal.com profile] thanfiction

This fic is pretty much the most amazing piece of fanfiction I've ever encountered. It's about what happens at Hogwarts during book 7. And gives a lot of character development to all the minor characters.

And Neville is super awesome.

But really, it's one of the few Harry Potter fanfics I'm willing to read these days.

(The other recent one being "And On the Third Day" by ~recessional over at Dreamwidth. H/R/H OT3, set right after HP7)

All righty, I usually don't do this. But I just finished reading this fic and it's absolutely freaking amazing:

Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness

In which Neville is a badass and everything is pretty much canon. Essentially, it takes book 7 and follows what all the other characters (you know, all those names Rowling mentions from time to time but never gives personalities to?) spent the year doing while the Golden Trio were doing their thing.

Mmph. Amazing.

I'm actually updating. With actually semi-relevant stuff. Be afraid. (And...I'm capitalizing the beginnings of sentences! Which is weird lately.)

So anyway, this weekend was a lot of fun. Friday night Bry and I went to see Jenny's play, which was pretty good. Not something I probably would've gone to see if Jenny hadn't been in it, but I still enjoyed it. And Bry loved it, of course. It was a good time. And Bry and I had a great conversation in the car on the way home...can't remember exactly what it was about, but it was good. We've been having a lot of awesome conversations lately, actually. It's cool.

Saturday was Harry Potter! Yay! It was...shiny, as Tom so aptly noted.
Spoilers! So don't read this if you haven't seen the movie yet! )
Conclusion: loved the movie, but too much book to fit into 2 and a half hours.

After the movie, we all (me, Bry, Tom, Craig, Loren, and Travis) went to Archie's and hung out there for a while, of course. During which, Loren decided that Lord Voldemort is a warm fuzzy teddy bear on the inside. And I came to the conclusion that everybody knows what my Christmas present from Bry is. Except me. After that we kinda dispersed, I hung out at Bry's house for another couple hours. Cuddling and stuff, yay.

Yesterday I ended up at Bry's house again...for like 4 hours in the evening. Watching him and Tom play Final Fantasy. And it was really fun, oddly enough. I didn't want to leave when it was time for me to go home...Tom suggested I should just stay all night, but...my parents would've killed me. Besides the fact that I had an exam at 9am today. Honestly, if it weren't for classes and spazmodic parents, I probably would've stayed. Because I'm that much of a nerd.

And as a result of yesterday, I've had the chocobo music stuck in my head all day. It'll be stuck in your head too, go watch this: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/58184

Mr. MacLean is playing in the wind symphony with us now. It's interesting. He's loud.

I think that's really all I had to say.

So for those of you that are too lazy to read all that, here's a summary:
Cool play.
Shiny HP.
Chocobo.

Thank you, and good night.
